2009/4/10 SailingOne of my favorites, by Christopher Cross. Hate to admit, N'Sync's version is pretty darn good too.
It's not far down to paradise At least it's not for me And if the wind is right you can sail away And find tranquility The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me It's not far to never never land No reason to pretend And if the wind is right you can find the joy Of innocence again The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me Sailing Takes me away To where I've always heard it could be Just a dream and the wind to carry me And soon I will be free Fantasy It gets the best of me When I'm sailing All caught up in the reverie Every word is a symphony Won't you believe me It's not far back to sanity At least it's not for me And when the wind is right you can sail away And find serenity The canvas can do miracles Just you wait and see Believe me 2008/10/27 O Mio Babbino CaroO mio babbino caro
Mi piace è bello, bello Vo' andare in Porta Rossa a comperar l'anello! Sì, sì, ci voglio andare! e se l'amassi indarno, andrei sul Ponte Vecchio, ma per buttarmi in Arno! Mi struggo e mi tormento! O Dio, vorrei morir! Babbo, pietà, pietà! Babbo, pietà, pietà! O my dear papa 2007/8/16 Squeeze - TemptedOne of my favorite 80s tunes.. (click here for the music video on YouTube)
I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste, a flannel for my face
Pajamas, a hairbrush, new shoes and a case. I said to my reflection, Let's get out of this place. Pass the church and the steeple, the laundry on the hill Billboards and the buildings Memories of it still keep calling And calling But forget it all I know I will Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered What's been going on Now that you have gone There's no other Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered I'm at the carpark, the airport, the baggage carousel The people keep on grabbing, ain't wishing I was well I said, "It's no occasion. It's no story I can tell." At my bedside, empty pocket, a foot without a sock Your body gets much closer I fumble for the clock, alarmed by The seduction I wish that it would stop Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered What's been going on Now that you have gone there's no other Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered I bought a novel, some perfume, a fortune all for you But it's not my conscience that hates to be untrue. I asked of my reflection, Tell me what is there to do? Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered What's been going on Now that you have gone there's no other Tempted by the fruit of another Tempted but the truth is discovered 2006/12/22 I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking ForA lot of U2 hits really resonate emotions common people go through. Both "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and Switchfoot's "This is Your Life" particularly and spiritually speak my life, both in my career aspiration and state of emotions...
I have climbed highest mountain
I have run through the fields Only to be with you Only to be with you I have run I have crawled I have scaled these city walls, these city walls Only to be with you But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of angels I have held the hand of a devil It was warm in the night I was cold as a stone, mmm, hmmm But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I believe in the kingdom come Then all the colors will bleed into one, bleed into one Well yes, I'm still running You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains Carried the cross of my shame, of my shame You know I believed it But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for 2006/12/20 Sara SmileHall & Oates has been in my car stereo for quite a while now, and I just love it. One of their greatest hits...
Baby hair with a woman's eyes
I can feel you watching in the night All alone with me and were waiting for the sunlight When I feel cold, you warm me When I feel I can't go on, you come and hold me It's you... and me, forever Sara smile Won't you smile a while for me (Sara...) If you feel like leaving, you know you can go But why don't you stay until tomorrow? And if you want to be free, all you have to do is say so When you feel cold, I'll warm you And when you feel you can't go on, I'll come and hold you It's you... and me, forever Sara smile Won't you smile a while for me 2006/5/21 Someday We'll KnowI figure the blog needs some artistic refreshment once in a while, instead of boring work gossips. So, the song of the night - Someday We'll Know by Mandy Moore and Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman, from the movie A Walk to Remember (of which I've seen parts of).
**************************
Ninety miles outside Chicago Can't stop driving I don't know why So many questions I need an answer Two years and later You're still on my mind Whatever happened to Amelia Earhart? Who holds the stars up in the sky? Is true love just once in a lifetime? Did the captain of the Titanic cry? Someday we'll know If love can move a mountain Someday we'll know Why the sky is blue Someday we'll know Why I wasn't meant for you Does anybody know the way to Atlantis? Or what the wind says when she cries? I'm speeding by the place that I met you For the ninety-seventh time tonight Someday we'll know If love can move a mountain Someday we'll know Why the sky is blue Someday we'll know Why I wasn't meant for you Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Someday we'll know Why Samson loved Delilah One day I'll go Dancing on the moon Someday you'll know That I was the one for you I bought a ticket to the end of the rainbow Watched the stars crash in the sea If I could ask God just one question Why aren't you here with me tonight? Someday we'll know If love can move a mountain Someday we'll know Why the sky is blue Someday we'll know Why I wasn't meant for you Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Someday we'll know Why Samson loved Delilah One day I'll go Dancing on the moon Someday you'll know That I was the one for you 2005/9/13 Nothing is SoundEver since I listened to Switchfoot's hit Dare You to Move from their double platinum album The Beautiful Letdown, I got hooked. I had been waiting for their latest album Nothing is Sound to come out, so today (the release date) I went and got a copy.
Once belonged to the christian rock genre, they are slowly phasing out and jumping into mainstream pop/rock, more evidently in this album. Like its predessor, the lyrics - written mostly by lead vocal/guitar Jon Foreman, are a combination of his critical view on the society, philosophical questions to himself and everyone else, sometimes a little blues, and a general depressing feel propagating throughout the tracks. But that's what makes Switchfoot unique. Like many other songs, it would take me a few tries to truly appreciate a song. However, after the first time listening to it, I think I have a few favorites:
Lonely Nation - Catchy rhythm! "Desperate we are young. Separate we are one. We are the target market. We set the corporate target. We are slaves of what we want." That's very true in this day and age.
Stars - The hit from the album. It reminds me how I feel too when I look at the stars.
Happy is a Yuppie Word - From the official website: ..."What is true happiness?" asks Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman. "Is it a comfortable four-door sedan with tinted windows? Does it mean I have 2.3 children and a beautiful wife and live in a great neighborhood? Everyone has their own version of what happiness means, but many of the things we’re going for, and I include myself in this, are absurd. There’s this moment in Jewish scripture, in Ecclesiastes, where it says, ‘Meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless.’
The Shadow Proves the Sunshine - Christian rock back to its roots. Nice addition of piano. I feel it will be another hit. From the website: ...inspired by a fact-finding trip Switchfoot took to South Africa in January 2005 to see for themselves the impact that poverty and disease has had on the region. Foreman describes the trip to South Africa, and meeting children orphaned by AIDS, as a turning point in his life. "You realize how poor we are as Americans," he says. "We might have a nice SUV, but nothing to show for our humanity." The song grapples with the idea that South Africa, which has endured many years of oppression and poverty, is a place where "I’ve never seen so much light or joy or happiness," he says. "So I may write about how everything is meaningless, but it’s a very hopeful thing for me to be proven wrong."
The Blues - From the website: ...the next step from The Beautiful Letdown both musically and lyrically. It references New Year’s Day and was written on January 1, 2004. "I tend to write some of my favorite songs on significant days in my life," Foreman says. "This one means a lot to me, it’s like a modern day Psalm of sorts—a long meandering song about how the end of the world might actually be a beautiful day."
The Setting Sun - Great melody ...it sounds so familiar though.
Golden - On my list because it's just catchy :)
Daisy - Wrapping up the album with nice solo guitar intro, like how Twenty-Four did previously.
Switchfoot appeared tonight at Late Night with Conan O'Brien ... 2005/8/17 Live like you were dyingThis song has been stuck in my head lately. It's got good rhythm and inspiring lyrics on the side. Life is short, we should live out each day like we were dying. Be happy, be nice to people, and relax!!
.......................................... He said I was in my early forties and he said He said I was finally the husband and then Like tomorrow was a gift and you got eternity to think about Sky diving 2005/6/30 Rock star in the making...A couple of weeks ago, something in my dream urged me to be extraordinary... like a rock star (this is true... ok ok I probably over-dramatized it a little).
A couple of weeks later, I got my Epiphone Les Paul electric guitar, memorized and struck 5 chords for the song Wonderwall by Oasis, didn't get the beat quite right yet, but I am half way there. Yesterday I was learning Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight....slide between the frets just makes a song sound a lot cooler. Putting the amplifier into overdrive = double the fun.
Looking forward to spending time with my baby... and my pot-smoking neighbor, please forgive me for the constant noise at night.
2005/6/5 Learn to be lonelyChild of the wilderness Who will be there for you Ever dreamed out in the world So laugh in your loneliness Learn to be lonely 2005/3/21 Hall & Oates - Out of TouchOne of my favorite 80's songs...They looked corny in that picture (who wasn't in the 80's?), but their songs are great to listen to. ***************************** Shake it up is all that we know 2005/3/1 Sting - Fields of GoldYou'll remember me when the west wind moves |
